Establishing a brand guide is critical for maintaining consistent and polished marketing. If every content item you put out varies in color and font, users and potential customers will struggle to resonate with who you are as a company. Producing a consistent look and feel gives your company increased professionalism and credibility.
Now let us dive deeper into what those items entail.
Most companies start by developing their brand logo, this is your primary company identifier. Out in the world, most would see a red 'T' and know that it is Tesla, a white apple icon and know it is an Apple product, or yellow arches and know it is a McDonalds. Your logo gives your brand the ability to be recognized with a simple image.
Identifying the font you want to use for your brand can be a difficult choice up front but when it comes time to create future content, you will have once less decision to make. When researching fonts, I typically recommend a 'bold' header font and a 'fine' sub-header font. These font selections can be carried over for use on your website, business cards, marketing flyers and any digital content you create. Having a consistent font look can help define an established brand appearance for content you publish.
As fun as all the colors of the rainbow are, having a few select colors to represent your brand is the ideal choice. For a brand color palette, I recommend three to five colors. What you choose for the colors depends on the look you want for your brand. For example, within Christy's Customs I chose to stay in the teal color family with the addition of black. Another approach is to use complimentary colors to create some variation in your color scheme. A good place to play with colors and see what looks good paired together is Adobe Color Wheel.
At the end of the day, you have complete control over what your brand guide looks like and how you want your company presented.
