How Do I Design a Logo?

January 12, 2024

After deciding on a name for the business, many people look forward to a logo design customized for their new venture. The best way to think of a logo is your brand in an image. When designing a logo, think of something simple with a clear depiction of your business name or a symbol that is associated with your company.

What Style Should I Choose When I Design a Logo?

One thing to remember about your logo design is the capacity in which it will be used. Some places your logo may appear is your website, business cards, social media, letterhead or even company swag. You want to create something that captures attention wherever it appears. The most difficult decision to make is what direction you want to go with the look of your logo. There are a couple common looks to logos.

Full Company Name: These logos include the entire company name clearly written out, some examples are my site ‘Christy’s Customs’, Sony, Disney, Samsung, or Kia. In these examples, the company logo is the full company name stylized into their logo.

Acronym: This logo style would be an abbreviated version of the company’s name. For example, ESPN, HP, or BBC. These companies have taken their full names and built a simple but recognized logo around the acronym.

Symbol: Within a symbol-based logo, companies can decide to have a brand recognizable shape or symbol that consumers will associate with their company. Some well-known examples would be Target, Nike, PlayStation or Starbucks.

If you are torn on a style, you can have your graphic designer create you some rough depictions of what each would look like. You can also decide to do a couple of the above options. For instance, McDonalds has a full logo with their name, and also a symbol without their name. The beauty of owning your business is getting to choose every detail.
